Mrs. Celina Hinman Bradford (Orly) wore this beautiful light beige blouse with a tight bodice, high collar, puffy sleeves, and a loose skirt in about 1890. Her family was part of the Bradford family, who still farm north of Sparta. We look at her clothing and wonder, “What was happening in Celina’s life when she wore it?”
Everyone is invited to a vintage-style show and refreshments at the Myers One Room School Museum at 16 W. 13 Mile Rd., Sparta, on February 23 from 2:00-4:00 pm. Vintage clothing will be modeled or displayed to period music played by Peggy Odren on the 1890 organ. While looking at the displays and having refreshments, you may wonder, “How could they even fit into those tiny waists?”
