Spectrum recently announced a donation of $2,000 to Sparta United Methodist Church (SUMC) through the company’s national community philanthropic program, Spectrum Employee Community Grants. Spectrum Employee Community Grants (SECG) is a community-focused philanthropic program that recognizes employees who volunteer for local nonprofits.
SUMC will use the grant to help stock their free Community Food Pantry. SUMC volunteers engage in multiple community outreach initiatives and partner with Hand2Hand, a program that provides food for children facing weekend hunger in West Michigan. SUMC’s programs help provide a critical need and resources to combat hunger.
“Through Spectrum Employee Community Grants, we’re proud to provide support to vital community organizations with which our local employees are already volunteering their time and talent,” said Christopher Spray, Area Vice President, Field Operations for Charter, Michigan. “Together, we’re building stronger communities where our customers and employees live and work across America.”
Spectrum Employee Community Grants has provided funding to nearly 500 local nonprofits in 34 states throughout the company’s service area since its inception in July 2019.
Recipients deliver critical social services, helping underserved residents meet basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, job training and neighborhood safety. Each awardee is nominated by one of the company’s 100,000 U.S. employees who has volunteered with the organization for at least one year.
Sparta United Methodist Church was nominated for a grant by Spectrum employee, Marilyn Passmore, Director, State Government Affairs, Michigan. Marilyn has volunteered with SUMC for nearly 2 years and regularly donates her time and talents to support various church initiatives that help the community.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to elevate the efforts of Sparta United Methodist Church,” said Marilyn. “This Spectrum Employee Community Grant will help restock our Free Community Food Pantry which will aid more children and families in our community.”
A check presentation took place on July 27th at the SUMC monthly Free Community Breakfast held at the church. Joining in the presentation were State Senator Rick Outman and Sparta Township Supervisor Dale Bergman, among others.
