The Grand Marshall for this year's Sparta Town & Country Days is Tim Driscoll. A Graduate of Sparta High School Class of '84, Tim has quietly busied himself in numerous projects from which many of us benefit. In business, Tim takes the lead in several ventures that include: Driscon, a construction and consulting company operating here in Sparta since 2006; Sundaes in the Park, a perennial local favorite; Champs Bar & Grill in Coopersville; a drywall installation business located in Grand Rapids; and more recently, the Sparta Bowling Alley.
As to community service, Tim, along with others, took a lead role in establishing the Sparta Area Recreation Authority, which in turn led the drive to plan, fund, and build Sparta's Sports Complex. At the same time, he has spent the last 18 years working with Sparta's little league baseball program - 16 of those years as president. In addition, Tim has served on Kent County Health's Food Advisory Committee, Sparta Area Schools Board, Sparta's Downtown Development Authority, and the Planning Commission. Many of us also remember Driscon's contributions in designing the new "Shorty's Monument" recently added to the Lamoreaux Brothers Veterans Memorial Park.
Tim, for all of this and more, your friends and neighbors, the citizens of Sparta, honor your many contributions, and thank you for all you've added to the long list of reasons we love to call this village our home.
